Letter to 6th Year Parents

May 8th, 2020

Dear Parent / Guardian,

I am writing to you today following the media reports concerning this year’s Leaving Certificate. Firstly can I thank you all for your support thus far and for guiding your son/daughter through these unprecedented times.

The information we have so far is that there is a proposal going to cabinet today to discuss an alternative certification pathway for our 6th Years. This may change the eventual detail as leaked last night.

I am asking for your patience until we receive guidance from the Department of Education as to how to proceed. At the moment we don’t know what the guidelines or rules will be. This may take a few days and we will have to work through them when we receive them.

I’m sorry I can’t give you any further information or guidance at the moment. I would suggest that your son/daughter takes a few days break from their studies until we hear how we are to proceed.

As always we are available to support you and your son/daughter should you need us. I have in the last few days sent out support resources for students and families, if you didn’t receive those please contact us and we will resend them to you.

I can only imagine the effect this uncertainty is having on our 6th Years, your son/daughter. Hopefully this will be eased soon with direction from Department in the coming days.

Yours sincerely,

Mr. O’ Connor.
