U14 Hurling West Court Cup

On Monday the 31st of March, Coláiste Phobal Roscrea’s u14 hurling squad travelled to Callan in County Kilkenny where they competed in the West Court Cup.

In the first game the boys took on Ardscoil na Mara, Tramore. Tramore started well going into a 2 point lead. Coláiste rallied back with scores from Conor Keeshan and Josh McEvoy. The half time score was 1-4 to 6 points to Roscrea. Tramore came out strong in the second half scoring 1 goal and 2 points quickly. However, brilliant defending at the start of the second half by Michael Maher kept us in the game. At this stage the scoreline was at 1-8 to 1-4 in favour of Tramore. In spite of this the lads weren’t going to give up. Frees from Conor Keeshan and Dara Hogan inspired a late comeback. Calum Beacon doubled on a Conor Keeshan pass to fire Coláiste Phobal into a 2-7 to 1-8 lead. We conceded a point but we then  replied with a point of our own. The final score was 2-8 to 1-9. In favour of Coláiste.

The second game we came up against a high quality opponent in Callan. Although we lost well the boys never let the head down and kept fighting until the final whistle.

In our final game we went up against another great opponent Ardscoil Rís Dublin .The boys worked very hard in this coming up with great scores from Conor Keeshan and Dara Hogan. However,  Ardscoil were too strong and overwhelmed us with a few quick goals. Nevertheless our boys kept fighting until the end.

Final score:7-9 0-7 to Ardscoil Rís Dublin.

In the end our results were not enough for us to advance to the next round. The lads still benefited from this competition and will continue to go from strength to strength.
